Help & Support
Everything you need to get the most out of RSS Reader. Can't find an answer? Email me — I read every message.
Adding & organizing feeds
- Paste any feed URL with Add Feed. RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, and Atom all work — blogs, news sites, podcasts, and newsletters.
- On the web you can also import an OPML file to bring feeds over from another reader.
- Feeds refresh automatically in the background about once an hour. Pull down (Android) or use the refresh button to check immediately.
- Drop feeds into folders to group them by topic. The unread count rolls up to the folder.
Reading & marking articles
On the web
- Click an article to open it. Press J / K to move to the next / previous article without leaving the keyboard.
- Mark articles read or unread, or star the ones you want to keep. Mark All Read clears a feed in one click.
On Android
- Swipe right on an article to mark it read (or unread). Swipe left to star it.
- Pull down to refresh. Use the menu for Unread Only and Mark All Read.
- On an open article, when you reach the bottom you can drag up to open the original web page.
Marking something unread protects it for 1 hour. During that window, scrolling past or opening the article won't quietly mark it read again — so you won't lose your place. This works even offline and syncs across your devices. You can always mark it read by hand to end the hold early.
Starred
Star an article to save it. The Starred view in the sidebar collects everything you've starred, across all feeds, so you can come back to it later.
Filtering out the noise
- Filter Rules (free for everyone). In Settings, create keyword rules that automatically mark matching articles read or star them — by title, author, or source.
- AI Filters (Pro). Describe the kind of article you consider noise in plain English, and the AI marks matching new articles read for you. See how AI Filters work & examples.
- Learned reader profile (Pro). On top of the rules you write, the AI builds a profile from what you star, open, and rescue — sharpening filtering automatically over time while protecting topics you follow. It's plain text you can read and edit in Settings.
- Marked Read By AI. This sidebar view shows exactly what the AI auto-marked read, newest first — nothing is hidden. If it got one wrong, mark it unread to rescue it back into your list.
Login-protected feeds
Some feeds (paywalled or membership feeds) require a username and password. In the Add Feed dialog, open "This feed requires a login" and enter the credentials — they're encrypted and used only to fetch your feed. A lock icon marks these feeds. Re-add the same URL with new credentials to update a saved login.
Pro & billing
- The app is free. The only paid feature is AI Filtering — Pro is $5/month. Keyword Filter Rules stay free for everyone.
- Payment is handled securely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Manage or cancel anytime through the Stripe receipt emailed to you, or just email me below and I'll sort it out. Cancelling stops AI filtering at the end of the period; your feeds and rules are untouched.
Your account
- Sign out from Settings on either platform. On Android this also clears the local copy of your articles.
- Clear Local Cache (Android) wipes downloaded articles and re-syncs them fresh from the server — handy if something looks out of date.
